As global ambassador for TAG Heuer, DiCaprio will be promoting several of TAG Heuer's products, including the brand's 43-millimeter Carrera Day-Date chronograph, a brand spokeswoman said. DiCaprio is the latest star to join TAG Heuer's "What Are You Made Of" advertising campaign, for which other brand representatives include Uma Thurman and Tiger Woods. While the brand does not disclose contract details, the royalties generated on select TAG Heuer products, as well as a portion of DiCaprio's own fees, will be donated to support a major environmental organization, a brand spokeswoman said. The 34-year-old award-winning actor has a long history of activism on behalf of environmental issues. The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, established in 1998, has actively fostered awareness of environmental issues by partnering with such organizations as the Natural Resources Defense Council, where DiCaprio is on the board of trustees; Global Green USA, where he serves as a board member; and the International Fund For Animal Welfare, where he is on the honorary board of directors, according to the foundation's Web site. "Leonardo DiCaprio is far more than an actor," said Jean-Christophe Babin, CEO and president of TAG Heuer. "He is a man who wants to change the planet and improve the plight of children in need. Swatch Fall/Winter 2009 announced

Last week, Watch Report received an email from a very kind reader in Iceland who wrote to inform us of the JS Watch Co brand based in Reykjavik, Iceland. JS Watch Co is certainly worth a look on style and attitude alone. The small company only produces 5 models but takes the manufacture and quality of each seriously. This is a line taken from their website, "We say that we produce our watches 50 years ago when workmanship and personal attention of the watchmaker was the standard in the high end wristwatch trade". Given that the company opened its doors in 2005, that is quite the statement. Their watches have been seen on the wrists of celebrities like Quentin Tarantino and Jude Law, and this past June the Dalai Lama was presented a timepiece from the small manufacturer. The upper-right button has an etched Oceanus logo that's quite attractive. The case is finished such that it resembles stainless steel more than titanium. The topsides are mostly brushed, with bevels and sides mirror-finished. The combinatons is quite attractive. On the dial, you can see the 24 hour dial on the left. This shows 24-hour time in timekeeping mode, and likewise if you're displaying the time in another city. The 6 o'clock subdial normally displays seconds, and in stopwatch mode counts fractions of a second. The 2:30 dial indicates the day of the week, daylight savings setting, and elapsed minutes in stopwatch mode. Around the minute ring are printed the names of the cities for world time, as well as indicators used in various modes - radio signal strength and whether or not a signal has been received in the last 24 hours.

New Christopher Ward Tri

The full lineup has some compelling choices. The green on black is novel, but the blue dial really has my number. All have a black rubber strap, and all look pretty darn awesome in my opinion. Here's a picture showing the tritium illumination. The tubes on the left are meant, I assume, to show how the material is vitrified into glass tubes. (There's more information and links about the technology on this review of the Luminox.)The black/green looks pretty bold up close: The movement is a Sellita SW200, which is an interesting story in its own right. The ETA 2824 and 2892, as used in zillions of watches, are now becoming subject to sales restrictions by the parent conglomerate which has caused supply problems at independent brands like Christopher Ward. However, the designs are from the 1960s and therefore no longer copyrighted; Sellita and others can now sell exact copies to whomever wants them. Sorted, as they might say. It should be just as reliable and repairable as an ETA-branded 2824.These are pre-announced; according to PR, the first 150 come out between mid-September and October, followed by general availability. If you pre-order, you can reserve your choice of serial number. As is often the case with Christopher Ward, the price represents an excellent value indeed, and we hope to get one for review.By Paul Hubbard » For updates on content, follow Watch Report on Twitter.

New brand: Praesto Aviator

At this year's Basel watch fair, Seiko announced the global release of more models under a new line called Ananta. Described as "an exclusive collection of luxury timepieces with Spring Drive andhigh-grade mechanical movements, targeted at those who truly understandand appreciate fine watch***." Ananta includes both high-grade mechanical as well as SpringDrive watches, giving us Seiko fans ample material for appreciation. Look for more posts here as we learn more.Read on for more details. For example, see in the picture how they managed the stand: the case is simply machined so that it rests at a good reading angle. No flip-out needed! The face is very legible day or night, with a bright red hand for the alarm setting and even a second hand if you need it.I've done a fair bit of traveling, and I can testify that simplicity is good when you're tired and jet lagged. While it would be nice if, for example, the bezel rotated, or the alarm had a snooze button, the utter simplicity of this design makes it almost impossible to miss getting up at the right time. The back continues the theme. The time setting dial is recessed slightly, and the alarm dial is raised and textured, meaning even by touch alone they can be differentiated. A *** slide switch for the alarm, and a battery cover for the 357 complete the picture. The included leather case is coherent as well. A flap with a snap holds the alarm inside, and it's sized minimally for low-bulk packing. The alarm is nice and loud, starting out with one beep per second andincreasing to twice that if not silenced. Loud enough for tiredtravellers, for sure. Similarly, the very bright glow of the tubes is wonderful at night, effortlessly readable at a glance and a perfect use of the technology.I have a couple of minor nits, though: the 357 battery, while lasting a full year, is harder to find abroad than the AAA.

The New Rolex Sea

Water resistant to 200m (660ft).Tritium lights on the hour and minute hand, hour markers, and bezel pip (with a contrasting orange tube at 12 o'clock).Five-link titanium bracelet (non-tapered) with solid links, solid end links, signed fliplock, and 3 micro-adjustments.Signed screw-down crown in ion-plated metal.Ion-plated chronograph buttons using a neat pivot design.Screwn-down caseback with F-22 engraving.47.8mm across (including the crown) by 15mm thick; 24mm lugs; 140g with all links in the bracelet.List price: $1,200.Please read on for the full review. Twelve hundred dollars list is a lot more than the older polycarbonate-bodied Luminox line, and an inspection of the dial shows that they've kept their focus on value. Brushed, faceted hands, a beautifully finished and detailed face, and the bluish tinge from the anti-reflective coating on the sapphire crystal make for a very readable watch under all conditions.I quite like the use of the big-date complication -- a good match for a watch whose slogan is "Always visible." The materials, finish, and details have been consistently upgraded throughout the watch, and are quite impressive. For example, the ion-plated crown screws down more smoothly than any watch I've seen to date -- high praise indeed. On the wrist, the 140g watch is almost weightless due to the titanium and the balance between the bracelet and watch. For timing things in the water, the chronograph works better, as the buttons are easy to press and the result easy to read. Seconds are via the red center seconds hand, tenths via the subdial at six o'clock, and minutes and hours via the two-hand subdial at nine o'clock. Here you can see the screwdown caseback, airplane engraving, and the pivots for the chronograph buttons.
